The Art of Blue Pottery: A Jaipur Tradition
Blue pottery is one of Jaipur's most recognisable crafts, distinguished by its striking cobalt-blue dye and glazed, non-clay body made from quartz stone powder.
Unlike traditional pottery, blue pottery doesn't use clay at all — it's fired at lower temperatures, giving it a distinctive, slightly translucent finish. Each piece passes through the hands of several artisans: one shapes the form, another paints the intricate floral and geometric motifs, and a third applies the signature glaze before a final firing.
At Clayhood, our blue pottery partners are third-generation artisans in Jaipur, working to keep this Persian-influenced tradition alive for a new generation of homes.
